Staying at MET A Space Pod puts you right in the middle of Arab Street and Bugis, but it’s also one of the best-connected spots in Singapore to branch out from. The Bugis MRT interchange sits on two lines, and most of the island’s biggest attractions are 20 to 30 minutes away by train. If you’ve already wandered Haji Lane and Kampong Glam, here are a few easy day trips to fill the rest of your stay.
Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay
Hop on the East-West Line from Bugis and change once to reach Bayfront, and you’re at the heart of Singapore’s skyline. Gardens by the Bay is free to walk through at ground level, with the Supertree Grove lit up after dark — the Supertree Observatory and the climate-controlled domes (Cloud Forest and Flower Dome) charge separate admission if you want to go inside. Walk over to Marina Bay Sands’ waterfront promenade for skyline views across the bay, and catch the free Spectra light and water show most evenings.
Chinatown and Tiong Bahru
A few stops away, Chinatown mixes temples, traditional shophouses and hawker food — the Chinatown Complex Food Centre is a good spot for an affordable, varied lunch. From there it’s a short ride or a pleasant walk to Tiong Bahru, a quieter residential pocket known for its Art Deco flats, independent bookshops and some of the city’s better café coffee, if you want a slower-paced afternoon.
Sentosa Island
For a full beach-and-theme-park day, Sentosa is reachable by cable car, the Sentosa Express monorail from VivoCity, or on foot across the boardwalk. Between Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium and a string of beaches, it’s easy to spend a whole day there — just budget extra for admission tickets and factor in the travel time back, since it’s the furthest option on this list from Arab Street.
A Few Practical Tips
Get an EZ-Link or SimplyGo card, or simply tap in with a contactless bank card, so you’re not queuing for single-trip tickets at every station. Singapore’s trains are air-conditioned but the walk between platforms and attractions isn’t, so bring water and sun protection. And since most MRT lines run until around midnight, there’s no need to rush back early — you’ll have plenty of time to shower off the day and settle into your pod before lights out.
